While I am in no way opposed to such a tax existing, “a general tax on certain merchant activities on visitors to Oak Harbor” is a somewhat unclear statement.
Could you be a little more clear with what you are proposing, or give an example of what this tax might look like? It sounds like a tariff, but I’d like to hear what the town council is thinking.
Reluctant though I am to do so, I agree with Rosen. This sounds like it has the potential to be the most legitimately useful tax the town has, but I’m wary of anything so vaguely worded.
