Very new and anxious but curious!

Hello everyone!

I have been an avid roleplayer and Renaissance faire goer for over a decade. I have wanted to join a LARP group for years, joined a few Discord servers, but always hesitate to actually commit. I found your site and read through as much information as I had access to, and it sounds wonderful. But, in a well-established community, I am anxious about where to start. As a complete newbie to larping and a self-proclaimed introvert, I worry that I will be utterly lost/confused, or unwelcome. Just how beginner-friendly is this? And where is the best place to start?

Thanks!

We are quite friendly - both as a community and specifically to beginners. Please come join our discord: Witchwood Roleplaying (this link will work for 7 days)

We can answer all your questions and reassure you, and you can get a sense of digitally, and so that when you meet us in person its more putting names to faces.

Welcome!! We’re super friendly, I promise. The discord is the best place to chat with folks online who are in the community. I’d recommend the irl-hangout-planning channel especially, since folks normally try to run occasional combat practice. It’s the best way to meet people out of the context of the game and learn combat rules. There’s a semi-regular meetup near the Boston area, and I try to host one every other month in Western Massachusetts as well.
If you want to jump right in but you’re feeling especially nervous about joining as a character, you can always come to an event and help out on staff-side! We’re always looking for more help, and there’s a bunch of new crunchies (non-writing staffers who help us with combat or silly talky plot) coming for Saturday of the coming event. Feel free to message me here or on discord (same username over there too!) if you want more info, or you just want to chat. We’d love for you to join our little community!

Oh my gosh WW is such a wonderful group of people. I just resumed LARPing after almost a decade. The diversity celebrated in this community is incredibly welcoming. I totally get the introvert side of things. You’ll feel safe and welcome at WW by this community I can assure you that. Folks will meet you where you are for sure. If you’re ever going to give it a try WW would be a wonderful place to give it a go.

You’ll easily find people to talk you through things if you want. The biggest potential pitfall is that too many people will want to help at once. Lol. This is a great community but we are occasionally a bit overenthusiastic. You can just tell people it’s too much if that happens, though; we know this about ourselves.

I personally am happy to help with any questions you might have. My character is kind of a bitch but I love new people IRL. Feel free to message me any time
