2022 State of the Game

Hi Everybody,

The world continues to be an unpredictable place, but Witchwood staff wanted to at least let you know what to expect from us, via a State of the Game post.

2022 IG Event Information

Witchwood is about to enter its 10th Year! Woo-hoo! We hope it will be a great one. We expect to run our Spring events on the dates mentioned in this previous post. Registration will open after the next Board meeting where we figure out if we need to adjust admission fees in response to increasing rental costs at the camp.

We expect our 2022 events to have similar COVID precautions to our Fall 2021 events. Posts here, here, here, and here.

Our second Fall event (date TBD) will be somewhere besides Camp Middlesex. (Location also TBD.) In-game, this will be an expedition to Salendale. Some of your characters already care about what’s happening there. For the rest of you, a number of group-plots throughout the rest of the year may give your characters reasons to want to go there. If Fall arrives and you find your character without a reason to want to go to Salendale, you may create a temporary Velliar character who will start with more than the normal starting character CP and with some bonus background information on the situation. (Details on this to be determined over the summer.)

Winter Discord Hangout Information

This will occur on our Discord server.

To pick a day and time, please fill out this doodle by the end of the day on 1/30.

The hangout will be organized as follows:

  • 5:30: Review what plots are happening, discuss what people are interested in.
  • 6:30: Talk about how we do feedback. We have PELs, we have the contact page. We used to have a Player Liaison system where each player had a staffer who was supposed to reach out to them periodically and talk about their game experience. Should we bring that back, or try something else?
  • 7:30: Generic chatting, playing jackbox games

Other stuff that’s important but that won’t be a group discussion at the hangout

  1. System development: We hope you’ve enjoyed our recent work developing the new advanced subversive paths, the advanced fighter paths, and the tweaked advanced Weaver paths. We will continue to consider small adjustments to these as we see how they play out in-game. Now that some of the other classes have powered up, we will also take a look at the other paths to make sure their advancement opportunities are still balanced.
Staff’s current areas of system development work include clarifying the Master Smithing system, adjusting the Contacts system (Merchant, Network, Agents) to reflect our intention to expand plot relating to those areas, and a few miscellaneous general rules items. If there are other areas that you would like to bring to our attention, please let us know.

  2. Culture packets: We are updating the culture packets per our DEI report. Once that is done, we will make the updated packets available.

  3. The kitchen. We’re aware that the kitchen staff spend an inordinate amount of their game time dealing with food prep. If you have suggestions or would like to volunteer your time, contact Beth B. at baniszew at gmail.

Stay safe, and see you in April,

-Beth B.

Two additional notes:

  • If you showed us your vaccine card in the Fall, you don’t need to show it to us again, BUT you will need to show us your booster card.

  • We won’t be following the “arc plot happens on Saturdays” philosophy of last year. However, we will still do our best to work with anyone who has time constraints and can’t be there the whole weekend.

People who have not yet attended a Witchwood event are welcome to attend the online hangout. (Though it may be a bit confusing to try to get oriented virtually.)

Results are in! The discord hangout will be on Feb. 12 at 5:30 pm.

Tomorrow!

Inspired by the Jackbox Games that followed the hangout, and the fact that I enjoy silly things: a silly thing.
